So now that I have spoken a little bit about myself, and my journey into Mormonism, I'd feel it's time to talk about why I created this site. There are two main reasons why I chose to create MyMormonStudies...
Firstly, I think it would be a great place to keep track of my thoughts and ideas relating to Mormonism. This would also be a great opportunity to get feedback on my ideas, or answers to any questions that I have. The second reason is to help others. When searching online for information relating to the LDS Church and it's teachings, it can be very hard to find a non-biased point of view. Whilst starting my research, I encountered three main types of websites containing information:
- LDS Websites. There are a number of sites that are ran by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of them provide heaps of information about certain subjects.... but next to nothing about other, not-so-popular subjects.
- Mormon Blogs. I have encountered many blogs ran by members of the church, that offer their interpenetration on scripture, and talk deeply about gaining your own testimony, and strengthening your faith in Jesus Christ. And, finally:
- Anti-Mormon Sites. There are large number of "Anti-Mormon" websites out there that claim to offer the "truth" about Mormonism. Sadly, most of the time, the arguments that these sites have to offer are not very well thought out, and are very negative towards the church and it's members.
In the case of the first two examples, I find that most of the time they lack the details, and talk too much about the faith side of things. This isn't always a bad thing, However, for those who are searching for information and the history surrounding the church and it's teachings, these type of sites may not be the best. When beginning my studies, I found myself drawn more to the "Anti-Mormon" sites, as they cut out the "Church Talk" (As I like to call it) and get straight down into what they call facts. They list a number of problems with the teachings, interpretations and history, and go on to explain each topic in more detail, often giving supporting Bible versus as evidence. I soon found out however, that the majority of these sites are pure nonsense. They often twist the truth, put forth their own opinions on the church as facts, and simply make things up out of thin air.
So I have created this site to offer others who may be in similar situations as I was, to read about topics presented in a non-biased way. I will take this time to say that all the content that will be posted on this site is entirely my own interpretation, and does not reflect the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's views. It is more then likely that my conclusions will be just plain wrong.
